PA46 plays an important role in achieving optimal appearance and dimensional control of plastic parts, and the holding time plays a crucial role. In theory, the holding time is the time required for the gate to solidify. Compared with other engineering plastics, PA46 typically only requires a short holding time due to its rapid solidification characteristics. By providing a sufficiently long pressure holding phase, the depressions and voids caused by volume shrinkage can be reduced. However, the holding pressure should not be too high to avoid stress. One method to determine the correct pressure level is to increase the holding pressure until the depression is no longer visible. Compared with PA66, PA46 only requires about half of the holding time. This, combined with its higher mold opening temperature, can explain why PA46 has a shorter molding cycle time compared to other engineering plastics.
