Common types of copper recycling are copper wire, which is further divided into No.1 copper wire and No.2 copper wire.
1st Copper Wire: Grade 1 includes bare, uncoated, and unleaded pure copper wire with no oxidation and no fuzz, with a wire diameter of not less than 1.6mm. Grade 2 includes clean, colorless, uncoated, unleaded, and unleaded pure copper wire and copper cable wire without fuzz and brittle copper wire that has been burned.
2# Copper Wire: Non-alloyed scrap copper wire, Wuhan copper recycling, containing impurities, copper content of 96% (with a minimum of 94%). Not to contain copper wire excessively leaded or tin-plated, soldered copper wire, brass or bronze wire, excessive oil, scrap steel and non-metals, brittle over-burnt wire, insulated copper wire, or excessive fine wire.

China lacks standards for scrap copper, yet there is a market for recycling construction scrap copper. However, with the rapid pace of China's industrialization, the social and economic environment facing the recycling, trade, and regeneration of non-ferrous metals has undergone significant changes. The recycling of old cable scrap copper not only sees a substantial change in the composition of non-ferrous metals but also experiences a surge of foreign scrap non-ferrous metals and various recyclable materials entering the country. This has provided abundant raw material sources for China's non-ferrous metal production while also posing new demands on the production and processing of recycled non-ferrous metals. Consequently, China is accelerating the establishment of standards for recycled metals.

Old scrap copper, which is discarded after use, such as old scrap copper from dismantled buildings and transportation systems. Copper and copper-based materials can be recycled and regenerated at all stages of the product life cycle, whether in exposed or encapsulated states. Generally, in industrial copper scrap recycling, new scrap copper accounts for more than half of the recycled copper. After reprocessing, about one-third of all scrap copper returns to the market as refined copper, while the remaining two-thirds is reused as unrefined copper or copper alloys. The direct application of scrap copper requires strict sorting and stacking. Direct application of scrap copper offers advantages such as simplified processes, simple equipment, high recovery rates, low energy consumption, low costs, and minimal pollution. The extent of direct application of scrap copper largely reflects a country's copper recycling level. By contrast, China's direct usage rate of scrap copper is relatively low, at about 200,000 tons annually, accounting for only 30% to 40% of the total scrap copper recovery. Moreover, the production of brass processing materials is predominantly handled by township enterprises, significantly reducing economic benefits and posing challenges in terms of energy consumption and environmental protection.
