Expansion joints refer to the gaps that separate a building vertically into several independent parts during the initial design, allowing each part to deform independently. These gaps are created to accommodate the building's length exceeding specifications due to factors such as temperature changes, uneven ground settlement, or earthquakes, resulting in variations in plane patterns or significant height differences.
