The working principle of ball screws is based on the principle of rolling friction. Due to the smaller rolling friction coefficient of the balls, the friction loss is relatively low, resulting in a higher rotational efficiency of the balls. Through the rolling of the balls, the input motion force can be smoothly transmitted to the nut, thereby achieving linear or rotational motion.

Ball screw structure

The ball screw structure consists of three main components: the screw shaft, the nut, and the ball bearings. The screw shaft is typically a long, strip-like part with a series of threaded grooves on its surface. It can be either straight or rotating, depending on the specific application requirements. The nut is a component that fits with the screw shaft, featuring guide grooves that match the ball bearings. The ball bearings are the critical component located between the screw shaft and the nut, transmitting force between them through rolling.

The features of rigid helical milling include:

1. Over 90% of the cutting heat from the helical milling can be instantly carried away by the iron pin, preventing the cutting heat from being transferred to the ball screw. This ensures that the ball screw and its raceways do not experience burning and annealing during the machining process.

2. No cooling required during milling, and it won't produce smoke pollution to contaminate the working environment.

3. One blade grinding can cut a spiral length of approximately 500m (equivalent to cutting a thread length of 3,000mm with a pitch of 10mm on 8-10 screws).

4. Milling cutters are more expensive than lathe cutters, and the blade resharpening process is complex. However, tool manufacturers can provide blade resharpening services. Hard helical milling is particularly suitable for semi-finishing long screw shafts and those with a large length-to-diameter ratio.
