Rhododendron simsii Planch., a deciduous shrub in the Rhododendron genus of the Ericaceae family, stands 2-5 meters tall with many delicate branches. The leaves are leathery, often clustered at the tip of the branches, in an ovate, elliptic-ovate, or inversely ovate shape, with a short tip that tapers to a point, slightly curled edges with fine teeth, dark green on top, and pale white below; the corolla is broadly funnel-shaped or inversely ovate, generally in 2-6 clusters at the top of the branches, ranging from pink, bright red, to dark red. Flowering period is from April to May, and fruiting period from June to August.
