The fuse tube's current carrying capacity test is conducted under an environmental temperature of 25°C. The fuse tube's current carrying capacity is affected by the environmental temperature; the higher the temperature, the shorter the fuse tube's lifespan, and the lower its carrying capacity, especially in the DC-DC module power shell. Therefore, when selecting a fuse tube, the surrounding environmental temperature should be considered. Our company recommends a steady-state input current of 1.5-2.5 times. Additionally, the impact of startup or hot-plugging surge currents should be taken into account, as this is highly related to the peak and duration of the surge current. Surge currents are significantly greater than steady-state currents, so the impact of surge currents should be prioritized. You can directly measure this data using a DC current probe, observe the surge current waveform (pulsed current waveform), and calculate its energy by measuring the I2t value (Joule integral value) of the DC-DC module power supply. The size and frequency of surge currents have different effects on the fuse. The ratio of the I2t value of surge currents to the I2t value of a single pulse determines the number of times the fuse can withstand surge currents. We recommend this ratio to be less than 20%, theoretically capable of withstanding over 100,000 current surges. For environments with high environmental temperatures, avoid using self-resetting fuses.
