In the textile industry, used as sizing agent, thickener for dyeing sizing, and for printing and stiffening treatments of textiles. As a sizing agent, it enhances solubility and viscosity, and is easy to desize; as a stiffening agent, its usage is above 95%; it significantly improves the strength and flexibility of the sizing film when used as a sizing agent; a composite film made of regenerated silk protein and carboxymethyl cellulose is used as a matrix for fixing C6H12O6 oxidase, resulting in a C6H12O6 biosensor with high sensitivity and stability. Studies show that a 1% (w/v) CMC solution mixed with silica gel slurry produces excellent thin-layer plate chromatography performance. Additionally, such plates coated under optimized conditions have appropriate layer strength, suitable for various sample application techniques and convenient for operation. CMC has adhesive properties for most fibers, improves the bonding between fibers, and its stable viscosity ensures uniform sizing, thereby enhancing weaving efficiency. It can also be used as a finisher for textiles, particularly for antiwrinkle treatments, bringing durability changes to the fabric.
