There are several reasons why a cold storage may produce offensive odors, typically including: an existing odor in the cold storage before any food is introduced; food spoilage before entering the cold storage, such as rotten eggs, meat, or fish; storing meat, eggs, or fruits and vegetables in a cold storage used for fish without proper cleaning, leading to odor contamination; inadequate ventilation in the cold storage, resulting in excessive temperature and humidity, which fosters the growth of mold and produces a musty smell; leaks in the refrigeration pipes, allowing refrigerants (ammonia) to contaminate the food, causing the odor; the temperature in the cold storage not dropping sufficiently, leading to meat spoilage and a foul smell, especially when fresh meat is not properly frozen or thawed before being transferred to storage; and the presence of foods with different odors in the same cold storage room, causing cross-contamination.

2. Moisture and vapor barrier for cold storage envelope
Moisture and vapor barriers are essential for cold storage envelopes; otherwise, the insulating material's thermal insulation performance will degrade. This is why the initial thermal insulation of the cold storage body is good, but it degrades over time. Since moisture vapor permeates from the high-temperature side to the low-temperature side, the moisture and vapor barrier should be placed on the side of the insulation layer with higher temperature.
3. Evaporator pressure and temperature of the cold storage
Evaporator: The evaporation temperature corresponds to the evaporation pressure. Once the evaporation pressure is known, the evaporation temperature can be determined by referring to a table. Under the condition of a constant cold storage room temperature, by reducing the temperature difference (the difference between the evaporation temperature and the room temperature), the evaporation temperature can be correspondingly increased. This will enhance the cooling capacity of the cold storage refrigeration unit, thereby improving the cycle efficiency and saving electricity.
