Pillar capitals, also known as pillar bases, are traditional Chinese architectural stone components installed at the position of the column on the platform. Part of them is buried in the platform base, and part extends above it, referred to as the ancient mirror. The top of the pillar capital has a hollow called "sea eye," which fits with the tenon at the bottom of the wooden column, securing the column in place. Some pillar capitals also have a socket at the top, allowing the column to be placed within it, similar to having a mortise for the column. The pillar capital reflects a miniature of the development of ancient Chinese decorative art and is an indispensable highlight in the thousands of years of Chinese architectural art.
