Metallic Materials for Stress-Corrosion Cracking and Stress-Corrosion Fracture Resistance in Oilfield Equipment, according to NACE MR0175-2003

This standard covers the requirements for metallic materials that are resistant to sulfide stress cracking (SSC) or stress corrosion cracking (SCC) on equipment used in oil production, drilling, collection, transportation, and on oilfield processing facilities for hydrocarbon gases containing H2S.

MR0175 Application:

SSC and SCC are influenced by the following factors:

Metallurgical state and strength affected by chemical composition, heat treatment, and microstructure.

(2) Hydrogen ion concentration (activity) in the aqueous phase (pH value)

(3) H2S partial pressure, which is the ratio of H2S concentration to total pressure.

(4) Total tensile stress (residual stress should be added)

(5) Temperature;

(6) Duration of exposure to acidic environments

(7) Charge Storage Effect

(8) Concentration of chlorides or other halides ions.

(9) Oxidizing Agents

(10) Non-secondary fluids (including those used for acidic stimulation or packers).
