Alloy elements in the cold drawn tube significantly affect the low-temperature tempering brittleness. Chromium and manganese promote the segregation of impurities like phosphorus at the Austenite grain boundaries, thereby enhancing low-temperature tempering brittleness. Tungsten and vanadium have little effect, while molybdenum lowers the transition temperature of toughness to brittleness in the cold drawn tube but is not sufficient to suppress low-temperature tempering brittleness. Silicon can delay the precipitation of cementite during tempering, increasing its formation temperature, thus raising the temperature at which low-temperature tempering brittleness occurs in the cold drawn tube.
