Rotala rotundifolia, commonly known as Winseed grass, Lantern weed, and Twirlweed, belongs to the family Hydrocharitaceae and the genus Hydrilla, a monocotyledonous, perennial submerged plant. It thrives in environments with ample sunlight, is heat-tolerant, and has strong regeneration abilities. Planting Rotala rotundifolia promotes the conversion of phosphorus in the substratum into a usable state, contributing to water purification.

The Vallisneria spiralis is a perennial submerged herb. Its stem is cylindrical with longitudinal fine ridges, and it is rather brittle. Dormant buds are elongated-ovate; sheath leaves are numerous, spirally and closely arranged, white or pale yellow-green, narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate. There are 3 to 8 leaves in a whorl, mainly propagated by dormant buds. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to October.
