Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, which circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, the acidic solution is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down, and it is complex and costly.

Pilot Cleaning

No two gray pipes can form a loop during cleaning; only a single gray pipe can be used for open circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the mixing tank, and then continuously or intermittently injecting it into the gray pipe. This process requires adding cleaning equipment while the system is shutdown, which increases the cost.

Continuous operation cleaning

This process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while operating under the normal ash transport conditions of the ash pipe, simultaneously introducing a specific quantity of ash pipe running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline cleaning stripper, and performing open-circuit cleaning. The primary function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash deposits within a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing the formation of air blocks, and ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent based on the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water cleaning equipment:
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers high efficiency, low costs, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety benefits.
Advantages of high-pressure water technology include:

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipe and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal substrate. With its immense energy and supersonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base material being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined action of jet washing, wedging, shearing, and abrasive grinding, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning speed several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, simple mechanical, and manual methods.

Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical must be rinsed off with clean water.

(3) No Environmental Pollution - Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses clean water as the medium, it does not produce a large amount of dust like sandblasting, grit-blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. It also does not generate large quantities of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning using clean water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomizing the jet, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust levels from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus ensuring no pollution is caused.

Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: scale that is firmly adhered to the pot shell and tube walls, and sediment that is loosely textured and easily detached.
Scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water that precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. The thermal conductivity of scale is very low, around 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. Scale buildup on the boiler's heating surface significantly worsens heat transfer efficiency, affecting the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, potentially leading to pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline scale corrosion, and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
