Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed-loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash piping lines to form a loop, creating a circulation system with the cleaning pump station. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, allowing for continuous recirculation and cleaning within the ash water pipes. As the acid washing decreases to a certain level, the acidic solution is replenished continuously. For short-distance single ash water pipes, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to create a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown, and it is complex and costly.

Preliminary Cleaning

No two gray pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only a single gray pipe can be used for open circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit and continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the blending tank, which is then injected into the gray pipe either continuously or intermittently. This process requires adding cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases the cost.

Continuous operation cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution into the ash pipe while the normal ash transport is not interrupted, simultaneously adding a specific amount of ash pipe operating cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent, followed by open-loop cleaning. The primary role of the cleaning additive is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing the formation of gas resistance, and ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent based on the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be considered complete.

2. High-pressure water cleaning equipment:
High-pressure water jet cleaning is efficient, cost-effective, non-damaging to workpieces, environmentally friendly, easy to operate, and safe.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) High-quality cleaning - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipeline and heat exchanger bores can completely remove all scaling and blockages inside, revealing the metal substrate. With immense energy and moving at supersonic speeds, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying hard scaling and blockages, but has no detrimental effect on metal.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of jet washing, wedge splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning process several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting, simple mechanical, and manual methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical must be rinsed off with clean water.

(3) Non-Environmental Pollution: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not generate large amounts of dust like sandblasting, grit blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. Nor does it produce a large volume of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning using pure water is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: hard water scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and tube walls, and loose sediment that is easy to detach.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts of calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, approximately 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it severely impairs heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can also lead to the deterioration of metal materials due to localized overheating, potentially causing pipe burst accidents; and it accelerates galvanic corrosion, leading to pipeline lime scale corrosion and hastening the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
