Empress mandarins, also known as tribute mandarins, originated early in Zhen Mountain, Sihui City, Guangdong Province, and are a rare variety cherished by farmers. With a long history of cultivation, it is said that as early as the Tang Dynasty, there were tribute mandarin plantations in the areas of Sihui and Deqing. During the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127 AD), due to their superior quality, they were designated as tribute goods for the emperor, hence the name "tribute mandarins." [2] They are now cultivated in various regions such as Zhaoqing, Lianzhou, Yunfu, Foshan (Gao Ming), Jiangmen, Shaoguan in Guangdong, and Wuzhou, Hezhou in Guangxi.
