Miliusa speciosa, also known as Pig's Foot Hat, Golden Bell Vine, Mountain莲藕, Hanging Bell, and Great Strength Yam. It is a medicinal herb. Belonging to the genus Miliusa in the family Leguminosae. Miliusa speciosa is used medicinally for its root, which contains primarily proteins, starches, and alkaloids. It is a climbing shrub, reaching 1 to 3 meters in height. The root system extends downward straight, about 1 meter long. Young branches are angular, covered with brown soft fur, gradually becoming hairless. The leaves are alternate; compound pinnate leaves, 15-25cm long, petiole 3-4cm long, stipules lanceolate, persistent, leaflets 7-17, with short petioles, with a pair of needle-like stipules at the base, persistent; leaf blades are elongate-ovate or long elliptic-lanceolate, 4-8cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, with obtuse, short apices, obtuse at the base, glabrous above, bright, powdery green when dry, covered with soft fur or hairless below, reddish-brown when dry, margin involute. Flowers are bisexual, axillary, with dense short racemes; pedicels 1-1.5 cm long; floral bracts 2-lobed; calyx 5-lobed, lanceolate, with the lower lobe longer; corolla slightly longer than the calyx, pink, standard petal glabrous, round, base white, with longitudinal purple stripes; keel petals white at the base, with a handle, purple at the front; keel petals 2, base light white, front parts enclosing the stamens and pistil; stamens 10, diadelphous, anthers yellow, round; pistil 1, ovary superior. Pod is 8-10mm long, diameter about 5mm. Seeds 2, round. Flowering period is August to September. Fruiting period is October.
