The new process of applying ceramic coatings to the surface of brake discs (braking discs) is currently in use internationally. Ceramic materials are considered for brake disc material due to their excellent friction properties and heat shock resistance. However, ceramics are difficult to shape into the required form for brake pads, hence the choice of thermal spraying technology to deposit ceramic coatings on the surface of the metallic substrate.
