Polypropylene fibers are synthetic fibers spun from isotactic polypropylene, which is obtained by polymerizing propylene, known as "polypropylene" in China's market.
Polypropylene fibers offer high strength, excellent toughness, good chemical and antimicrobial resistance, and low cost, making them widely used in industries such as ropes, fishing nets, safety belts, luggage straps, safety nets, sewing threads, cable sheaths, geotextiles, filter cloths, papermaking felts, and reinforcing materials for paper.
Polypropylene woven geotextiles, manufactured utilizing the superior properties of high strength, acid and alkali resistance, antimicrobial, and equal strength in wet and dry conditions, can reinforce civil engineering projects built on soft soil foundations (such as dams, reservoirs, highways, railways, etc.), evenly distributing load bearing across the geotextile, ensuring uniform settlement of the subgrade and reducing ground cracking. When constructing slopes, woven polypropylene geotextiles can stabilize the slope, reduce slope failures, shorten construction time, and extend the lifespan of the slope. For heavier load-bearing applications, composite geotextiles with woven geotextiles and nonwoven as the base can be used. Polypropylene fibers can serve as filling material for concrete and mortar, enhancing the impact resistance and waterproof insulation properties of concrete.
With the rapid development of the chemical, environmental protection, and new energy industries, polypropylene fibers, as filter materials, have excellent prospects for use. New technologies have enhanced their filtration efficiency, strength, light weight, and stability against chemicals, as well as good filter cake release properties. Therefore, as functional products such as hydrophilic separators and ion exchange membranes in industries like chemicals, environmental protection, and batteries, they are showing a strong growth momentum and represent a new high-tech product that boosts the added value of polypropylene fibers.
