The gate section features emergency gates and maintenance gates. In the event of an accident, the emergency gates can close in moving water to cut off the water flow, ensuring the safe operation of the hydroelectric power plant. Emergency gates that can close quickly are known as rapid closure gates. The emergency gates are opened in still water after upstream and downstream pressure equalization. The operation of the maintenance gates upstream requires operation in still water. The upper structure of the intake has closing machines and cleaning equipment. The tailwater gate of the hydroelectric power station primarily serves to prevent sudden floods or other causes from causing the river water level to exceed the tailwater level, leading to tailwater backflow into the plant and causing flooding accidents. The likelihood of using the tailwater gate is not high in normal circumstances.
