Advantages of aluminum panels:
1. Lightning Protection Characteristics
The debate over lightning protection has been ongoing for a long time. Many people believed that aluminum composite panels are made of pure aluminum, offering better conductivity. To address this issue, ALUSUISSESINGEN GMBH, a German company, conducted lightning strike resistance tests on two materials in a military laboratory in Germany. The results showed that during the instantaneous impact of a lightning strike, both aluminum composite panels and aluminum single panels can provide complete lightning protection when using the specified facade connection method. However, during the continuous current of a lightning strike, melting is more likely to occur at the lightning strike point on metal panels or metal surfaces. Aluminum composite panels, being a composite material, exhibit slightly better lightning protection. Considering both products offer lightning protection, the aluminum single panel is more suitable in terms of quality and cost-effectiveness.
2. Fire-resistant properties
Aluminum composite panels are non-combustible, a fact well-known to all. Early aluminum-plastic panels were not fire-resistant. However, with the advancement of aluminum-plastic panel technology, the fire-resistant versions, which incorporate non-toxic flame-retardant materials into their PE, have improved their fire resistance. Yet, they still do not meet the fire protection requirements for engineering projects.
3. Residual Value
Aluminum composite panels have a certain residual value, but being an environmentally friendly product, they are recyclable. However, the recycling rate of aluminum-plastic panels is far lower than that of aluminum composite panels, and the waste caused by aluminum-plastic panels is significantly greater than that of aluminum composite panels.
