A flame arrester is a safety device designed to prevent the spread of flames from flammable gases and vapor of flammable liquids. Typically installed in pipelines conveying natural gas or on ventilated tank farms, it is a device that prevents the transmission of flames (explosion or deflagration). It consists of a flame arrester core, the flame arrester housing, and accessories.
Fire arresters are commonly used on pipelines conveying flammable gases. If a flammable gas is ignited, the gas flame can spread throughout the entire pipeline network. To prevent such a danger, fire arresters must also be employed. They can also be used on pipelines with open flame equipment to prevent backfire incidents. However, they cannot prevent the open flame combustion of flammable gases and liquids.
