At construction sites, when the edge of a work surface at elevated work is without guardrails or when guardrails are present but are less than 800mm high, such operations are referred to as edge work. Situations where construction is carried out in this edge state, such as along trenches, pits, and slots, around deep foundation perimeters, around pier caps, around bridge decks, and on either side of pedestrian bridges, are all classified as edge work. Additionally, on general construction site grounds, there are often excavation activities such as digging pits and trenches, and construction along their edges is also considered edge work. When performing edge work, it is mandatory to set up sturdy and feasible safety protection measures. Different edge work locations require different types of protective equipment. These mainly include guardrails.
Guardrails are prone to be affected by weather and external forces, which can lead to instability or even damage. The stability of guardrails is closely linked to the safety of construction work. Intelligent real-time monitoring of guardrails helps construction companies understand the status of the guardrails in a timely manner, providing important safety guarantees for construction operations.
