Introduction to Carbon Steel Equal Tee

Carbon steel equal tees, also known as straight tees, welding tees, or same-size tees, vary by region but all belong to the tee family.

Carbon steel equal tees are primarily used to alter fluid direction, typically at the point where the main pipeline branches off.

Three-way fittings are pipe fittings, pipeline connectors, also known as three-way pipe fittings or three-way connectors, used at the point where the main pipeline branches off.

A three-way is a chemical pipeline fitting with three openings, consisting of one inlet and two outlets; or two inlets and one outlet. It comes in T-shaped and Y-shaped designs, with both equal and unequal diameter pipe ends, used at junctions where three identical or different pipelines converge.

Carbon steel equal tees differ from carbon steel reducing tees in that equal tees have three pipe openings of the same size, while reducing tees have the main pipe size the same but the branch pipe size smaller.

Manufacturing Process

Hydraulic Expansion: Also known as the cold drawn molding of tees, hydraulic expansion is a forming process that uses axial compensation of the metal material to expand the branch pipe; the hydraulic expansion process for tees can be formed in one go, offering high production efficiency; both the main pipe and the shoulder wall thickness of the tee are increased.

Hot Forming: The hot forming of tees involves flattening a billet larger than the tee diameter to approximately the diameter of the tee, then creating a hole at the location of the extension branch. The heated billet is placed into the forming die, with a punch mold inserted for the extension branch. Typically used for tees with large diameters and thicker walls, this forming process is commonly employed.
