Common Iris is a deciduous perennial herbaceous plant, bred by hybridizing and selecting from species such as Iris hexagona, Iris giganticae, and Iris brevuilei. The rhizome is horizontal and fleshy. The leaves are basally clustered, about 2 cm wide, and 40 to 60 cm long, with parallel veins and thick coriaceous texture. The spike is upright and robust, towering above the foliage, reaching 60 to 100 cm in height. The perianth has 6 petals, and the flower colors include purple-red, deep red, pink, deep blue, and white, with a diameter of approximately 16 to 18 cm.
