Steel barrage gate

A steel weir gate is a special structure without bottom or side gate slots, where the gate leaf rotates around a bottom pivot axis. The upstream water seal is pressed against the round shaft, ensuring a continuous sealed water seal as the dam is raised or lowered without leaving the shaft's surface. The side water seal operates on the same principle, maintaining a constant seal against the side abutment (typically made of marble), thus sediment does not affect the lifting or collapsing of the steel weir. The weir relies on hydraulic pressure to tip downstream, and once down, the body of the dam is below the high level of the dam's bottom plate, so it does not impede flood discharge.
