The integrated automatic backflush water purifier has been designed with full consideration of regional water quality variations. It not only selects the dosing points reasonably but also adds coagulation and reaction functions, ensuring sufficient reaction time for the unit. The surface load is designed conservatively to enhance the equipment's ability to withstand shock loads, making it more suitable for different regional water quality conditions. The filtration system uses low-resistance water distribution for deep slow filtration, ensuring the turbidity of the filtered water is ≤3 degrees.

Working Principle

The integrated automatic backflush water purifier consists of two main components: a rapid inclined tube sedimentation unit and a gravity filter. Its working principle and technical features are as follows:

1. Rapid Inclined Tube Sedimentation Tank

The Rapid Inclined Plate settler is an improved version of the traditional horizontal flow settler. By incorporating inclined plates within the settler, the settling area is increased, significantly enhancing the efficiency of the inclined plate settler. This results in a higher water output for the same settling area, meaning that for the same water volume treatment, the volume of the equipment (or unit) can be reduced, thereby decreasing equipment investment. The addition of the inclined plates not only shrinks the equipment volume but also technically improves the hydraulic conditions: with small pipe diameters and spacing (usually around 30mm), the water flow is in a laminar state, allowing particles to settle without disturbance, enhancing the coagulation reaction zone. After raw water enters, it first undergoes coagulation and reaction, where suspended impurities絮凝 into larger particles before entering the settling zone, ensuring effective sedimentation. Due to the presence of the reaction zone, the sedimentation efficiency of this equipment is superior to that of traditional integrated water purifiers, with a longer coagulation time and better sedimentation results. Generally, when the incoming water turbidity is ≤1000ppm, the effluent turbidity from the settler is already ≤15ppm.

2. Gravity Feed Automatic Backwashing Filter

The device is designed for hydraulic automatic backflushing, and its operating principle is as follows:

The filtration process is as follows: After sedimentation or clarification, the clear water passes through a distribution trough and into an Siphon Rising Tube via U-shaped pipes. It is then evenly distributed over the filter medium by the water distribution baffles within the top cover. The water filters downward through the filter medium. The filtered water enters the collection area, or the water outlet tank, through a low-resistance distribution system. When the water level rises to the outlet pipe, the filtered water flows into the clear water pool.

When the filter pond is newly operational, the filter material layer is relatively clean. However, as it operates for a certain period, the gradual increase of solid particles and impurities in the filter material layer leads to an increase in head loss. Consequently, the water level rises slowly along the siphon rise pipe. Once the head loss reaches a certain point, the water level in the siphon rise pipe rises to the siphon auxiliary pipe, flowing down rapidly. Relying on the entrainment of air and the jet action of the water flow, along with the continuous removal of air from the siphon pipe by the suction pipe, a vacuum is formed in the siphon pipe. The water in the siphon rise pipe then surges over the pipe top and falls down the siphon drop pipe, marking the beginning of the backflushing process. The backflushing water from the storage tank is flushed upwards through the connecting pipe, collection area, and distribution system. The waste water from the flushing is then drained out through the siphon into the drain well. During the flushing process, the water level in the storage tank gradually decreases. After approximately 5 minutes, when the water level drops to the siphon disruptor, the siphon is destroyed, and the flushing process is complete, resuming the filtration cycle.

Setting up this device eliminates the need for traditional mechanical backflush pumps and the use of fresh water for backflushing from the water pool. This simplifies the entire system, reducing the need for backflush pumps, related piping, valves, and fittings, significantly easing the operation and management workload, as well as capital investment. Since the backflushing is automated based on the degree of filter media clogging, it minimizes human operation errors. The entire unit can even operate unattended.

It is evident that the adoption of the integrated automatic combination water purification system for medium and small-scale water plants offers numerous advantages that are unparalleled by other equipment. Its implementation simplifies, streamlines, and enhances the reliability of the entire treatment system. Both technically and economically, it outperforms traditional water purification systems.
