The load switch is an intermediate device between circuit breakers and disconnectors. It features a simple arc-extinguishing mechanism that can interrupt rated load current and certain overload currents, but not short-circuit currents. The structure of the load switch adds an arc-extinguishing device compared to a disconnector, but it is simpler than a circuit breaker. Connected to a high-voltage fuse, it forms a combined electrical appliance that can replace expensive circuit breakers.

By disconnecting load current through load switches, short-circuit and overload currents are cut off, reducing the cost of distribution devices, and making operation and maintenance simple. The main performance of the ring cabinet depends on the performance of the load switches used.
