The main component of acid-proof bricks is silicon dioxide, which, upon high-temperature firing, forms a large amount of andalusite, a highly acid-resistant material. Due to the dense structure and low water absorption rate of acid-proof bricks, they can withstand any concentration of alkaline medium at room temperature, but are not resistant to high-temperature molten alkali. These bricks contain over 70% silicon dioxide and are sintered.
