Silt screens are typically installed at the intake of the power unit, primarily to prevent debris like branches, weeds, floating matter, and aquatic plants from entering gates, valves, turbines, etc., thus protecting the equipment from damage and ensuring the normal operation of the power generation facilities. In hydropower stations, there are usually two silt screens: one is a floating silt screen, usually positioned upstream near the intake, which can float up and down with the water level; the other is a fixed silt screen (removable), commonly located at the intake. During operation, debris on the silt screens should be cleared promptly to minimize water energy loss and prevent the screens from being collapsed by debris. Additionally, during major maintenance shutdowns, the silt screens should be inspected and repaired, including checking for any loose, deformed, or welded parts on the frames and bars, and whether the zinc coating or paint on the metal surface has peeled off or rusted. Corrosion prevention measures should be taken in accordance with actual conditions, with maintenance typically required every 3 to 5 years.
