Silt traps are typically installed at the intake of the unit, primarily to prevent branches, weeds, floating debris, and aquatic plants from entering gates, valves, turbines, etc., thereby protecting the equipment from damage and ensuring the normal operation of the power generation facilities. In hydropower plants, there are usually two silt traps: one is a floating silt trap, usually positioned upstream near the intake, which can float up and down with water level changes; the other is a fixed silt trap (removable), commonly located at the intake. During operation, debris on the silt traps should be cleared promptly to minimize water energy loss and prevent the traps from being crushed by debris. Additionally, during scheduled maintenance shutdowns, the silt traps should be inspected and repaired, including checking for any loose or deformed grids, welding issues, and whether the zinc coating or paint on the metal surfaces has peeled or rusted. Anti-corrosion treatments should be applied as needed, with a general maintenance interval of 3 to 5 years.
