    The speed of light transmission is constant within a specific medium (such as approximately 3×10⁸m/s in a vacuum, and about 2×10⁸m/s in single-mode fiber), and "latency" essentially involves adjusting the distance light travels to indirectly control its arrival time. The core value of optical delay lines lies in addressing "time/phased matching" requirements for the following scenarios:

    1. Signal SynchronizationIn multi-channel optical systems (such as phased array radar and parallel optical communication), light signals in different channels may experience timing differences due to varying paths. Delay lines must be used to adjust the delay of each channel to ensure that the signals "arrive simultaneously" at the receiver, avoiding signal distortion caused by phase shift.
    2. Time Resolution EnhancementIn optical testing (such as OTDR), through precise delay of light signals, time windows can be refined, enhancing the system's resolution capabilities for "short-time signals" (such as ns-level pulses).
    3. Simulated Transmission DistanceDuring laboratory testing of optical communication systems, actual long optical fibers are not required. Instead, transmission delays of light signals in kilometer-scale fibers are simulated using delay lines (e.g., a 1km fiber corresponds to approximately 5μs of delay), thereby reducing testing costs and space usage.
    4. Quantum State ControlIn quantum optics experiments, precise control of photon transmission delay achieves temporal matching of quantum states (such as preparing entangled quantum states, and quantum key distribution).
