Water-washed stone involves a mixture of cement and aggregates, which is smoothed and allowed to dry quickly. The cement on the surface of the aggregates is then washed away, revealing the aggregate surface. This method of construction has become increasingly common in recent years, although it is essentially similar to the sandblasting technique used in the 1960s. While wall construction can be more challenging, quality is easily ensured. Groundwork construction is less difficult, but it is prone to cracking and localized settlement. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure the stability of the foundation in design and construction. Reinforced concrete foundation slabs may be necessary, and it is generally recommended to set settlement joints every 5 to 6 meters.

Water-washed stone construction requirementsAll washed stone is mixed and evenly fixed with original color cement, using slag cement of 32.5 grade or higher, or ordinary portland cement.2, Optimal particle size is 5-8mm, with clay content not exceeding 1%.3. Method of washed stone

1. Clean up the grassroots:

Clean the dust, grease, and debris from the base. If uneven, level it; wash the grease with a 10% lye solution and dry it.

2. Apply base mortar.

Apply a base coat of cement slurry, then spread the base mortar in layers; flatten the base mortar with a straight edge and comb it with a wooden comb. After the mortar has fully set, water cure it.

3. Gravel Mortar Surface Layer

Apply a coat of plain cement slurry, then apply the gravel slurry in two layers. The finish should be 1mm higher than the sides of the ground. Afterward, flatten and compact the gravel slurry layer.

4. Maintenance and Care:

Dip the brush in water, brush away the surface mud, then recompact and smooth it, repeating the process 3 to 4 times; once the surface is clean and the stones are visible, rinse with clean water and seal it, then assign a person for maintenance. If mud residue is found on the stone surface, use oxalic acid to scrub it off, ensure to dilute it promptly and drain it into the sewage system, not into the green spaces.
