Xiamen Bed and Breakfast Grey Washed Stone Pavement, Light Grey Water-washed Stone Architectural Wall Decoration Technique

    Washed stone refers to a mixture of cement and aggregates. After being smoothed and quickly dried, the cement on the surface of the aggregates is washed off, revealing the aggregate surface. Due to the diverse colors and shapes of its raw materials, washed stone can be used to decorate various shapes and patterns, and is widely applied in both indoor and outdoor landscape shaping. Some large-area exterior wall renovations also use washed stone, exuding a natural and simple feel.

How to Wash Stone

1. Clean the grassroots level:

Clean off dust, grease, and debris from the base. If uneven, fill in the gaps; wash away grease with a 10% lye solution, and let it dry.

2. Apply base mortar layer:

Apply a base coat of cement mortar, applying the undercoat in layers. Level the undercoat with a straight edge and abrade it with a wooden brush. After the mortar has fully set, water cure it.

3. Chipstone finish layer

Apply a coat of plain cement paste, then apply the aggregate paste in two layers. The surface should be 1mm higher than the sides of the ground. Subsequently, flatten and compact the aggregate paste layer.

4. Maintenance and Care:

Dip the brush in water, brush off the surface mud, then compact and smooth it. Repeat this process 3 to 4 times. Once the surface is clean and the stones are visible, rinse with clear water and seal it. Assign a person to take care of it. If mud residue is found on the stone surface, use oxalic acid to scrub it clean. Be sure to dilute it promptly and dispose of it in the drain; do not let it flow into the greenery area.

Cleaning Operations:

Seize the timing, regularly inspect the paved surface. When the cement is about to set, remove the film for cleaning. If uncertain, start with a partial cleaning to see the results. Clean promptly in high temperatures to avoid difficulties in washing the set cement. If cement cannot be cleaned, use a high-pressure jet to quickly clean the surface, ensuring uniform cleaning. Also, clear the film and cement not on the work surface to prevent difficult cleaning later. After the site is thoroughly cleaned, implement protective maintenance measures.

Protective Maintenance:

Hot weather requires irregular road watering and maintenance. After 3 to 5 days as needed, cutting and sealing can be performed. If required, apply a sealing protective agent and color it for enhanced brightness (depending on road safety and anti-slip properties). During the maintenance phase, entry and exit of personnel, as well as operations for other projects, must be strictly prohibited.
