Barium sulfate sand is a radiation shielding material, commonly used to block or reduce the radiation effects of radioactive substances. Its radiation shielding principle takes advantage of the absorption characteristics of barium sulfate for radiation. Barium sulfate is a high-density material, with a density as high as 4.3 grams/cubic centimeter. Generally, the 3.3-3.8 density range is chosen, which has strong absorption capabilities, effectively absorbing and blocking radiation.

Barium sulfate sand is primarily used for sealing various radioactive sources, such as medical equipment, scientific instruments, and nuclear industry equipment. It can encapsulate radioactive sources to prevent radiation leakage and reduce the harm of radiation to the surrounding environment and people. Additionally, barium sulfate sand can also be used to manufacture protective clothing, shielding screens, and protective panels for radiation protection.

Note: Barium sulfate sand effectively blocks radiation but is non-radioactive and does not produce radiation. However, barium sulfate is a toxic substance, so appropriate safety precautions must be taken when using it to prevent inhalation or contact with the sand.
