Silica bricks undergo transformations between quartz, tridymite, and cristobalite during production, which disrupts the original crystal structure and rearranges it to form new structures. Due to their high activation properties during the firing process, the transformation occurs at high temperatures but slowly, resulting in a significant volume expansion effect.

The green bodies of silicon bricks form a minimal solution at firing temperature, making them difficult to fire. A series of physical and chemical changes during the firing process of silicon bricks will cause the bricks to expand by approximately 3 meters in size.
