Computer cables belong to electrical equipment cables. These cables are suitable for electronic computers and automatic instruments with high requirements for anti-interference performance, rated at 500V and below. Depending on the specific environmental and equipment usage requirements, the cable insulation can be made of materials such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, cross-linked polyethylene, fluoro plastics, and silicone rubber.

The individual pairs of twisted shielding and between twisted shielding and overall shielding should not be disconnected.

The cores of the cables and between the cores and the shielding or other metallic layers should withstand a non-breakdown condition under an alternating voltage of 2000V for 1 minute or 1500V for 5 minutes at 50Hz.

High insulation resistance and voltage resistance of polyethylene, along with a small dielectric constant and minimal temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric loss, not only meet the transmission performance requirements but also ensure the cable's service life.

To minimize mutual interference between circuits and external disturbances, the cable must be designed with a shielding structure. Shielding materials include tin-plated or untinned copper wire, copper strip, copper-plastic composite tape, and aluminum-plastic composite tape, among others. The metallic strips are produced using a wrapping method, with an overlap rate typically not less than 15%, but specific standards may have special provisions; for instance, TICW/06 specifies that the overlap rate of the shielding metallic strip should not be less than 25%. The metal wire is produced using a braiding method, with a braiding coverage rate of not less than 80%, and may be not less than 90% for higher interference resistance requirements.

The shielding requirements for cables are differentiated based on different scenarios: segmented shielding (only for twisted pairs, with each twisted pair having its own shielding), overall shielding (the cable has only one overall shielding layer after the cores are twisted), and segmented + overall shielding (combining both of the above structures). To meet higher requirements from users and usage scenarios, the overall shielding structure can adopt a composite shielding method, consisting of two layers of shielding, formed by metal tape wrapping and metal wire braiding.

Note: If the cable has a segmented shielding structure, there should be good insulation between the shields, and it is necessary to wrap with polyester tape or other non-absorbent tape on the outer side of the segmented shielding.
