The raw materials are mainly polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), and can also include polyvinyl chloride and polyamide, etc. The leaf is coated with a green color resembling natural grass, and additional coatings are required.

Polypropylene (PP): Coarser grass fiber, Artificial Turf Catalog
Generally suitable for tennis courts, playgrounds, tracks, or decorative purposes. Wear resistance is slightly inferior to polyethylene.
Nylon: An early synthetic grass fiber raw material, considered one of the earlier generations of synthetic grass fibers.
Material structure
The artificial turf is composed of three layers. The base layer consists of a compacted soil layer, a gravel layer, and an asphalt or concrete layer. The base layer must be firm, non-deforming, smooth, and waterproof, similar to a general concrete surface. Due to the large area of the hockey field, the base layer must be properly handled during construction to prevent sinking. If a concrete layer is laid, expansion joints should be cut after the concrete has cured to prevent deformation and cracking due to thermal expansion.
Above the base layer is a cushioning layer, typically made of rubber or foam plastic. The rubber has moderate elasticity with a thickness of 3~5mm. Foam plastic is cost-effective but lacks elasticity, with a thickness of 5~10mm. Too thick, the grass is too soft and prone to indentation; too thin, it lacks elasticity and doesn't provide adequate cushioning. The cushioning layer must be firmly adhered to the base layer, usually with white glue or multi-purpose adhesive.
The third layer, also known as the surface layer, is the turf layer. Depending on the surface shape, it can be made of绒毛草皮velvet turf, circular curly nylon turf, leaf-shaped polypropylene fiber turf, and permeable turf woven with nylon threads. This layer must also be glued onto rubber or foam plastic using latex. During installation, the glue must be applied uniformly, and the layers must be pressed tightly together without any wrinkles or folds.
Overseas, there are two common types of turf layers: 1. The turf layer has thin, leaf-like fibers, only 1.2~1.5mm thick; 2. The turf fibers are thicker, 20~24mm, with quartz filling almost to the top of the fibers.
