The role of rheology additives
Due to the addition of solid particles such as pigments and fillers in the paint system, it is prone to separation from the base material and settle at the bottom of the container. Additionally, during the vertical application process, the paint may exhibit varying degrees of sagging under the influence of gravity. To address these issues, the addition of rheological additives is required. Rheological additives impart thixotropy to the paint, altering its viscosity at high, medium, and low shear rates. Consequently, while enhancing the anti-sagging properties, they also maintain good flow and leveling characteristics of the system, allowing the paint to gradually decrease in viscosity as the shear rate increases and to gradually recover its viscosity when the shear is removed.
The ideal rheological modifier should possess high thixotropy and properties such as thickening, anti-settling, temperature stability, and the ability to improve the workability of coatings without affecting flow and leveling. It should not negatively impact the gloss and adhesion of the film. Compared to bentonite, fumed silica, hydrogenated castor oil, and polyimide, Debesi 410 rheological thickener boasts several unique advantages: it is a liquid, offering superior anti-settling properties when added before use, and better anti-run properties when added after use. It requires minimal quantities for high efficiency, has a broad polarity applicability, is insensitive to temperature changes, minimizes the impact on gloss, and reduces the formation of unstable bubbles.
The Debeyou 410 Thixotropic Agent was successfully developed in 2008 and, after years of iterative upgrades and market testing, it has now gained the trust and support of numerous customers. The Debeyou 410 Thixotropic Agent forms a three-dimensional network structure within the system, providing strong thixotropy and superior anti-settling and anti-sagging properties. During storage, it uses this network structure to support various pigment components, effectively preventing settling and increasing viscosity. During application, the application of shear force disrupts the network structure of the Debeyou 410 Thixotropic Agent, causing a rapid decrease in viscosity to meet application requirements. Once the shear force is removed, this network structure is re-established within seconds, preventing paint film sagging.
The application of Debesi 410 thixotrope: In practical use, it is influenced by two factors: the shearing force at the time of addition and the polarity of the system.
When using the Debisi 410 thixotrope, if it's simply poured into the paint without applying shearing force, the reticulated structure cannot be formed, and no thixotropic effect is produced. If it's milled, the excessive shearing force can destroy the reticulated structure, affecting the application. Therefore, the proper method of addition is to use high-speed dispersion or paddle stirring, at a linear speed of (5~15) m/s, and gradually add while stirring for 5-10 minutes.
The Debey Lion 410 thixotrope is suitable for a wide polarity range:
Most of the resins used in the paint basically meet the polarity requirements of Deblois 410 thixotrope. The polarity of the system primarily depends on the solvent's polarity. However, it is necessary to test the overall system's polarity before use, as the Deblois 410 thixotrope is related to the system's polarity. Add 3% Deblois 410 thixotrope to a transparent container containing a mixture of resin and solvent and observe its condition. If no agglomeration occurs, the system's polarity is suitable and can be used; otherwise, solvent adjustment is required.
Debby Lion 410 Dosage and Application Range:
The recommended dosage for sediment prevention is 0.1% to 1.0%; (adding it prior to sediment prevention generally yields better results.)
The recommended addition rate for anti-skid application is 0.5% to 3.0% (usually, adding after the fruit is more effective for anti-skid purposes).
The scope of application includes: zinc-rich primers, anticorrosive coatings, ship coatings, epoxy and polyurethane thick film systems, road marking paints, alkyd architectural coatings, wood coloring systems, matte varnishes, pigment concentrates, underbody sealants, sealants, screen printing inks, and more.
