The supports are also categorized into insulated (or cooling-insulated) and uninsulated. The uninsulated ones are simply called "supports" and are used for normal temperature pipelines; the insulated (or cooling-insulated) ones are referred to as "pipe-shoe." Both insulated and uninsulated supports can be further divided into sliding, fixed, and guided types. The pipe supports remain constant, but the connection between the pipe supports and the steel structure or brackets changes.

Typically, tube supports with sliding and guiding features use PTFE plates sliding against PTFE plates, or white steel plates sliding against PTFE plates, to reduce the coefficient of friction. This helps to lower the binding stress of the pipe supports on the pipeline during deformation or displacement, and to minimize relative movement between the support and the pipeline.

The Clamp Guiding Support is composed of a support and a pipe clamp, referred to as CLAMP GUIDING SUPPORT in English. The material chosen varies according to the environmental temperature. When the sliding pipe clamp support is placed on a pier or steel structure bracket, if the height adjustment is required between the guide base plate of the support and the root, the guide base plate should be tightly padded and leveled. Both the padding iron and the root, as well as the padding iron and the guide base plate, should be securely welded. During welding, the sliding plate (PTFE plate) should be temporarily removed, and then inserted after welding is completed.
