Stainless Steel Filter Cartridge Technical Guide: Selection, Usage, and Maintenance Tips

    2025-08-21

Stainless steel filter cores, as high-performance filtering elements, their correct selection, installation, and maintenance are crucial for ensuring the stable operation of the system. Below is a practical technical guide provided for your reference.

One: Scientific Selection: Matching Working Conditions is the Core

    1. Filter Precision: Select based on the target pollutant particle size, with common precision ranging from 1 to 100 μm. Higher precision results in greater flow resistance, requiring a balance between filtration efficiency and system pressure drop.
    2. Material Selection: 316L stainless steel is a general-purpose option with better resistance to chloride ion corrosion than 304; for stronger corrosive environments (such as halides), consider Hastelloy alloys.
    3. Structural Configuration: Select length and diameter based on flow rate and installation space; Sintered felt filter cores have a high dirt-holding capacity, suitable for conditions with a lot of impurities; woven mesh filter cores have low resistance, ideal for high-flow pre-treatment.
    4. Operating Parameters: It is essential to clearly define working temperature, working pressure, pressure differential limits, and chemical compatibility to ensure the integrity and performance stability of the filter element structure.

    Proper Installation: Avoid Human Damage

    1. Pre-installation Check: Confirm the filter core specifications and model are correct, inspect the seal rings (O-rings) for integrity and positioning, and clean them with alcohol.
    2. Proper Insertion: Align the filter cartridge with the center tube of the filter housing, insert it vertically and slowly to prevent sudden drop impact that could damage the filter cartridge or the sealing surface.
    3. Evenly Tighten: When installing the filter housing cover, torque the bolts diagonally to ensure even pressure distribution across the seal ring, preventing leakage or shearing damage due to uneven force.

III. Operation Monitoring and Maintenance: The Key to Extended Lifespan

    1. Monitor Pressure Difference: Install pressure gauges at both the inlet and outlet. The initial pressure difference (clean pressure difference) should be documented. If the running pressure difference rises to 2-3 times the initial value or reaches the manufacturer's specified allowable pressure difference (usually 0.2-0.3 MPa), the machine must be shut down for cleaning or replacement.
    2. Online Cleaning (Backwashing):
    • For washable filter cores, clean liquids, gases, or steam can be used for reverse flushing from the outlet side.
    • Backwash pressure should be lower than operating pressure, and flow should be gradually increased to prevent shock damage to the filter media.
    • If simple backflushing is ineffective, consider ultrasonic cleaning or soaking in a specialized cleaning agent.
    1. Offline Deep Cleaning: For severe contamination, methods such as high-temperature calcination (400°C-500°C) and immersion in acidic or alkaline solutions (material compatibility must be confirmed) can be used for thorough regeneration. After cleaning, the item should be rinsed thoroughly with pure water and dried.
    2. Routine Inspections: After each cleaning, inspect the filter cores for structural damage, such as mesh detachment, cracking, and seal end cap weld cracks. Dispose of immediately upon discovery.

    Section 4: Storage and Obsolescence

    • Storage: Backup filter cores should be sealed in packaging and stored in a clean, dry environment to prevent oxidation and dust contamination.
    • Disposal: Equipment should be retired and replaced when there is irreparable damage, the differential pressure remains high after cleaning, or performance does not meet standards.
