Primarily used for the drying and sterilization of capsules (water capsules, dense capsules, water-dense capsules, etc.), tablets, powders, granules, various oral liquids, and traditional Chinese and Western herbs. For a long time, the pharmaceutical industry in our country has been using traditional heating drying and sterilization methods, such as using hot air and far-infrared for drying pharmaceuticals, and high temperature and high pressure, cobalt 60 for sterilization. These methods not only have low thermal efficiency and utilization rates, long heating times, and large land requirements that are not environmentally friendly. Additionally, sterilization requires maintaining a temperature of 120℃ under pressure for 20 to 40 minutes, which inevitably leads to a certain degree of destruction of the efficacy and nutritional components of the drugs. By utilizing microwave drying and sterilization, which can fully utilize the characteristics of microwave drying and sterilization, the drawbacks of traditional heating can be addressed. With a meticulously designed capsule microwave drying machine, the processed capsules do not crack, exhibit good consistency, maintain their original form, and extend the shelf life. A 5KW microwave oral liquid sterilization unit can process over 5,000 10ML bottles per hour, with a sterilization temperature of around 80℃ and a time of less than 1 minute. Not only do the hygiene standards meet requirements, but the oral liquids also maintain clear color, retain the original nutritional components, have no sediment, and offer a pleasant taste.

Microwave energy application technology in the pharmaceutical industry is mainly used in the following aspects: rapid drying, insecticidal and sterilization of traditional Chinese medicine materials; drying and sterilization of traditional Chinese medicine preparations, tablets, capsules, etc.; drying and sterilization of powdered drugs; sterilization of oral liquids. For example, in the storage and transportation of traditional Chinese medicine materials to prevent spoilage or during pre-processing, it is necessary to dry them. Unlike traditional heating methods, which do not uniformly heat the raw materials, resulting in high energy consumption, long drying time, and unsatisfactory drying effects, microwave treatment directly absorbs microwave energy by the material to achieve heating, ensuring uniform heating, fast speed, high quality of the dried herbs, and low energy consumption.

Characteristics of microwave heating:

Short time, fast speed. Microwave heating causes the heated object to become the heat source itself, without the need for heat conduction. Microwaves penetrate the material from all directions, achieving uniform heating of the object in a short time, significantly reducing the heating time.

2 Uniform Heating. To increase the drying speed using conventional drying methods, the external temperature needs to be raised, which is prone to form a hard shell on the outside of the pills. Microwave heating heats both the inside and outside simultaneously, without the need for heat conduction. It typically uniformly penetrates electromagnetic waves to generate heat, thus greatly improving uniformity.

3 Low-temperature sterilization preserves the medicinal ingredients. Microwave sterilization is the combined effect of microwave thermal and non-thermal effects. Compared to conventional thermal sterilization, it achieves the desired sterilization effect at lower temperatures and shorter times. The thermal effect primarily facilitates rapid temperature increase for sterilization, while the non-thermal effect causes proteins and physiological active substances in the microorganisms to mutate, leading to loss of vitality or death. The combined action of thermal and non-thermal effects significantly reduces the processing time. Practical evidence shows that a sterilization temperature of 70-80℃ is generally sufficient, with the sterilization of various materials typically taking 3-5 minutes. Conventional thermal sterilization often involves heat loss in the environment and equipment, whereas microwave directly acts on the material, resulting in no additional energy loss.
