Forging quality inspection items are as follows:

(1) Geometric Shapes and Dimensions

General forgings are inspected for dimensional accuracy using steel rules, calipers, and templates; complex-shaped die forgings can be inspected using marking methods.

(2) Surface Quality

Surface cracks, dents, or fold defects on forgings are generally visible to the naked eye. Sometimes, cracks may be very small, and the depth of folds may be uncertain. They can be observed after cleaning and scraping; in case of necessity, an ultrasonic testing method can be employed.

(3) Internal Organization

Is there any crack, inclusion, porosity, or other defects in the forgings, which can be checked by the naked eye or a magnifying glass of 10-30 times on the macrostructure of the forging cross-section. A commonly used method in production is acid etching inspection, where a sample is cut from the area of the forging that needs to be inspected and soaked in an acid solution to clearly reveal the defects in the macrostructure of the cross-section, such as forging flow lines, cracks, and inclusions.
