Forging quality inspection items are as follows:

(1) Geometric Shapes and Dimensions

General forgings are inspected for dimensional accuracy using steel rules, calipers, and gauges; for complex-shaped die forgings, marking methods can be used for inspection.

(2) Surface Quality

Surface cracks, indentations, or folding defects on forgings are generally visible to the naked eye. Sometimes, the cracks are very small, and the depth of the folds is uncertain. In such cases, observe after cleaning and scraping; and inspection by probe can be used if necessary.

(3) Internal Organization

Internal cracks, inclusions, looseness, and other defects in forgings can be inspected on the forging cross-section using the naked eye or a magnifying glass between 10 to 30 times. A commonly used method in production is acid etching inspection, where a sample is cut from the area of the forging to be inspected and immersed in an acid solution to clearly reveal the defects in the macroscopic structure of the cross-section, such as forging flow lines, cracks, and inclusions.
