• Generally, the total number of pallets is considered one of the indicators of a country's logistics modernization level. The United States has between 1.5 to 2 billion pallets, Japan has about 700 to 800 million, and China currently lacks an exact count, with an estimated 100 million. From this perspective, China's logistics industry has much room for development. At the same time, there is significant concern within the industry that these seemingly small pallets could become a bottleneck for China's logistics growth.
• Professor Wu Qingyi of Beijing University of Technology, also known as Wu Tuo Pan, is a prominent figure with a sense of foresight. In the 1980s, he studied in Japan as a visiting scholar, becoming one of the pioneers of logistics in China. In 2001, under Professor Wu's initiative, the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing established the Pallet Committee, with Professor Wu serving as the chairperson. In his view, the major challenge in China's logistics industry is the issue of pallet standardization and the establishment of a shared system.
• In fact, there has never been any doubt about the importance of pallets, whether for logistics companies, manufacturing firms, or commercial enterprises. The issue lies in their perspective, which is limited to the radius of their own operations. However, logistics involves all companies, departments, industries, and activities. Goods cannot consistently be used in the logistics chain due to the inconsistent standards of pallets, leading to frequent handling and switching of pallets, which lowers logistics efficiency. Currently, the major gap in China's logistics compared to developed countries is in cost and efficiency, and the use of pallets is precisely the foundation for significantly improving the operational efficiency of the logistics system and effectively reducing logistics costs.
