On October 15th, the "Fusing Antiquity with the Present – 2023 International Bronze Sculpture Art Exhibition," co-hosted by the China Cultural and Artistic Association and the International Sculpture Society, grandly opened at the National Art Museum of China. The exhibition showcases over 150 bronze sculptures from more than 20 countries and regions, including China, Italy, France, and Japan, featuring both classic replicas of ancient bronze artifacts and innovative works by contemporary artists, attracting numerous art enthusiasts to visit.
Collision of Tradition and Modernity
The exhibition is divided into two main sections: "Ancient Elegance and Tradition" and "Contemporary Exploration." In the "Ancient Elegance and Tradition" area, replicas of bronze artifacts from the Shang and Zhou dynasties showcase the exquisite casting techniques of ancient times. In the "Contemporary Exploration" section, artists employ modern technologies such as 3D printing and laser engraving to create visually striking bronze sculptures. For instance, Chinese sculptor Li Ming's "Traces of Time and Space" combines traditional patterns with modern abstract styles through hollow bronze sculpture techniques, prompting deep contemplation from viewers.
International Artists Discuss the Future of Bronze Sculpture
At the opening ceremony, Italian sculptor Marco Bellini stated, "Bronze sculptures are not only the art of metal but also carriers of culture. Today's exhibition shows us that Eastern and Western bronze sculpture arts can inspire each other." Japanese artist Kenzaburo Yamamoto showcased his new work, "Flowing Bronze," which uses special oxidation technology to create a gradient color on the bronze surface, exploring new possibilities of the material.
The exhibition will run until November 30th, with additional events such as copper sculpture workshops and master lectures scheduled to provide visitors with an up-close experience of the allure of copper sculpture.
