A gas spring is an elastic element that operates with gas and liquid as its working medium, widely used in office swivel chairs for functions such as support, cushioning, braking, height adjustment, and angle adjustment.
The fundamental principle of a pressure rod is that it is filled with high-pressure nitrogen inside. Due to the presence of a through-hole in the piston, the gas pressure on both ends of the piston is equal. However, the cross-sectional areas on either side of the piston are different—one end is connected to a piston rod while the other is not. Under the force of the gas pressure, this creates a pressure towards the side with the smaller cross-sectional area, which is the spring force of the pressure rod. The magnitude of the spring force can be adjusted by setting different nitrogen pressures or different diameters of the piston rod.
In office swivel chairs, the principle of the gas lift rod is to move the chair's adjustment valve, opening the control valve within the rod. The nitrogen pressure cycles from the bottom to the top of the piston, causing the chair to rise. Once the control valve in the gas tube closes, the piston remains at the set position, locking the chair's height.
The air cylinder boasts features such as compact size, light weight, easy installation, and stable pressure, making it an indispensable and crucial component of modern office chairs.
