Activated Carbon Filter

Working Principle and Construction
The activated carbon filter is primarily composed of an activated carbon layer and a support layer. The activated carbon has well-developed pores, a large specific surface area, and high adsorption capacity. Due to these characteristics of activated carbon, it is widely used in the deep treatment of water, such as in potable water supply and the deep treatment of wastewater (purified water).
Activated carbon, after a period of use, adsorbs a large amount of adsorbates and gradually approaches saturation, losing its working ability. In severe cases, it can penetrate through the filter layer, hence it is necessary to regenerate or replace the activated carbon.
The primary function of the support layer is to prevent activated carbon from escaping from the equipment, and it also plays a certain role in even water distribution during water immersion and rinsing.

Application Scope
Activated carbon filters utilize the adsorption process of activated carbon to remove soluble organic matter that other filters cannot, such as phenols, aldehydes, textile dyes, pesticides, etc. Generally used as terminal water treatment equipment or for the removal and decolorization of pollutants that are difficult to degrade after biochemical treatment. They are widely applied in the advanced treatment of water supply and drainage engineering.
