How to Chamfer Granite Curbing?

Rimstone, a common type of facing stone, is initially a square-shaped parallelogram when processed. Many of the rimstones we encounter, however, have a slanted or rounded corner, which is what we refer to as chamfering.

Beveling refers to cutting edges at a certain angle to create a斜surface. So, how is the curb stone beveled?

There are various methods for chamfering curbstone edges, with more advanced options including fully automatic chamfering, followed by semi-automatic chamfering and manual chamfering. Fully automatic chamfering utilizes a specialized chamfering machine, which operates automatically once the parameters are set. However, not many manufacturers use this type of machine, as it is quite space-consuming and has a low usage rate.

Most stone factories do not solely produce curb stones; they typically manufacture a variety of materials like fireboard, smooth slab, and荔枝face, as well as different types of curb stones. Consequently, many stone factories predominantly use semi-automatic and manual chamfering methods.

The so-called semi-automatic process refers to using an infrared cutting machine for chamfering. When processing curb stones, first cut the rough stones to the desired thickness, then cut them to the required specifications with the machine. By adjusting the inclination of the saw blade, chamfering can be achieved. However, this method is only suitable for bevel chamfering and not for round chamfering.

The most commonly applied artificial chamfering is rounding corners. Generally, a 1-2cm 1/4 round corner is quite manageable, as a quick pass with a grinder can finish the job. The challenge lies in the larger 5cm round corners, which require workers to grind them incrementally, ensuring a uniform curve during the process. Otherwise, the curb stones won't align neatly.

Currently, the most widely used methods are semi-automatic infrared cutting machines for chamfering and manual chamfering.
