    (1) Selecting Aluminum Welding Wire

    Generally, 301 pure aluminum welding wire (1070 aluminum welding wire) and 311 aluminum-silicon welding wire (4043 aluminum welding wire) are selected.

    (2) Select Welding Method and Parameters

    Welding is typically performed using the left-hand technique, with the torch and workpiece at a 60° angle. When welding thicknesses of 15mm or more, the right-hand technique is employed, with the torch and workpiece forming a 90° angle.

    Pre-weld Preparation

    Thoroughly clean the surface oxidation layer on both sides of the weld groove using chemical or mechanical methods.

    Mechanical cleaning can be done using air or electric milling cutters, as well as scrapers, files, and other tools. For thinner oxide films, a 0.25mm copper wire brush can be used to sand and remove the oxide layer.

    Weld immediately after cleaning. If the item is left for more than 4 hours, it should be cleaned again before welding.

    (4) Features of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Materials in Aluminum Boxes

    Aluminum is a silvery lightweight metal with excellent malleability, high electrical and thermal conductivity, and also boasts anti-oxidation and corrosion resistance. It readily oxidizes to form an aluminum oxide film, which can easily lead to inclusions in weld seams, thereby disrupting the metal's continuity and uniformity, and reducing its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

    (5) Welding Challenges of Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Materials in Aluminum Boxes

    Oxidation-prone. In the air, aluminum readily combines with oxygen to form a dense aluminum oxide film (thickness of approximately 0.1-0.2μm), which has a high melting point (about 2050°C), far exceeding that of aluminum and its alloys (around 600°C). The density of aluminum oxide is 3.95-4.10g/cm³, about 1.4 times that of aluminum. The surface of the aluminum oxide film is prone to adsorb moisture, which hinders the fusion of the base metal during welding, leading to defects such as blowholes, slag inclusions, and incomplete fusion, thus reducing the performance of the weld.
