Polishing is a process carried out on castings in the foundry. The type of machine should be chosen according to the size and geometric shape of the casting. Generally, small parts use fixed-type grinding machines, while large parts use suspended grinding machines. The casting remains stationary while the suspended grinding machine moves within an appropriate radius, or a portable pneumatic/electric small grinding wheel can be used for any part. Although convenient, it is not very efficient, consumes more small abrasive discs, has high labor intensity, and is costly. The handcart-type grinding machine is more suitable for medium-sized castings for flat surface grinding or riser and sprue trimming. Simple handcart-type grinding machines can be homemade in large-scale foundries, are easy to use, provide suitable results, and their outline dimensions can be adjusted according to the casting.
